I don’t know what it is about kids and not liking their names. I never like my first name when I was growing up for many reasons. My first name is Mauricio. It’s a strange name for American kids. Also too many syllables when they’re younger. Too many syllables for a drunk frat brothers to handle. They couldn’t do more than two or three syllable names at a time. lol. So my name was butchered from the very beginning. When I used to go to summer camp, I just use my middle name Max. It made it a lot easier on everybody and also gave me a nuisance of identity. Almost as an alter ego. And when I went to college and people couldn’t pronounce my name properly, I just started calling myself Max. And recreated myself with that new persona. Full circle I actually like my first name Mauricio. Find it with Mauricio Max whenever I do anything creative.
I love this Ari. What a backstory. It’s funny, I watched that show back in the day but never equated you with the douchebaggery of Entourage. That Ari is so over.
Yes those who knew me as a person were very aware of how opposite that character was to me... but unfortunately yes, since I'm "in the film business" like the character, it caused a lot of trouble because everyone assumed we were the same person. When you do a work of fiction you are supposed to legally clear the names to make sure there's no risk of confusion with a real person - they must have decided they held all the cards. The douchebags should have at least hired me to direct an episode for good karma!
Good story. Good to hear it from you… and to understand the timeline of the name theft. And your exhortations to humanity and connection are well timed and moving. As for me, I always liked my name. If, after introducing myself, anyone ever needs clarification, it’s quite easy to say “yes, you know… like the popular western religion.” When will you have a screening in Copenhagen, or Sweden?
yes I hope to bring film to Scandinavia soon enough! your retort is good. yes I hope to bring film to Scandinavia soon enough. it would be harder if your last name was “nationalist”
Beaitifully written. It has been epic to meet you. I also have the name Rami. I became Kosha Dillz. And there are many Ramys and Rami's and it is a journey to be who I am. I love it. I love the filmmaking journey, and watching you is pretty epic.
Hate to be the guy who says Keep going, but hey yah...KEEP IT GOING!!

Love your work Ari the Lion.
Thank you Rick the Daniels!
Good man. Good name. 🍎
Yours is also ripe for jokes (if you are who I think you are, Mr B!)
It all makes sense, in its own confusing way… it all feels like a jigsaw puzzle that’s mid-construction… carry on.
we are all mid construction
